The sweet silver lining

The attack in Stockholm is horrible, but it turns out everything has a silver lining. I have been amazed by how the population has reacted to this event! On Friday people opened their homes to those who couldn't get home due to all communal traffick being stopped; kindergartens stayed open to take care of the kids until their parents could come and get them; grocery shops offered food to children being stuck without their parents. This post is one great example, where the residents are offering pizza to people stuck in the area:

My Facebook feed was exploding with people posting statuses offering people a place to sleep or just hang out until they could get home, and everyone was helping each other out. And this is big for Sweden, because we're known for wanting our space, practicing the "don't come into my bubble" kind of attitude. Like this:

The cherry on top of the whipped cream dessert that has been the wave of kindness from the people of my hometown, was that yesterday an ENORMOUS amount of people gathered in the central square Sergels Torg for a manifesto to honour the victims of the attacks. Everyone was together, everyone was welcome, everyone was accepted, everyone was ONE. It made me kind of wish I could've been there to be part of it. I'm very touched by this reaction and it makes me so proud of my fellow Swedes. Turns out nothing creates community like a common enemy.

(All the pics are taken off the internet btw)
